What you will learn

One system. Many sources.

Following Jeet Kune Do, the club keeps what works from each art and drops what does not. The techniques draw on American boxing, karate, escrima, fencing and the trapping of wing chun kung fu.

Boxing

Footwork, head movement and punches that land hard and efficiently.

Kickboxing

Kicks, knees and combinations that link hands and feet.

Grappling

Jiu-jitsu fundamentals: takedowns, control and escapes on the ground.

Trapping

Close-range hand work drawn from wing chun, for when a fight gets tight.

Street defense

Defending against people who attack with intent, not a points game.

Fitness

Conditioning built into every session.

Our history

Four decades in Columbus.

  1. 1983

Do-Jung-Ishu begins as a martial arts club at The Ohio State University, guided by the concepts of Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do. The name is Cantonese for “the art of fighting.”

  2. 2011

Darin Waugh publishes The History & Practice of Do-Jung-Ishu: “The Art of Fighting,” documenting the club’s training principles and philosophy.

  3. Today

The club trains as Ohio Fight Club, outdoors at Whetstone, with more than 600 members on Meetup. Its instructors have tested their skills from the street to the ring, and some still compete in cage fighting.

Real, quality martial arts instruction should be affordable and accessible.
